It works pretty well, all things considered, though there are a few places where it stumbles. It's a simple idea that's vaguely reminiscent of sliding block picture puzzles (which I hate with a burning passion), but you're making a path rather than an image. Roll the Ball has one central concept that's used as the foundation for each of its four game modes: drag blocks with tracks in them to complete a path that will allow a ball to reach the level's goal. Tons of ads will get in your way with a surprising amount of frequency, but you might still want to give it a look. With the exception of Rotation Mode seeming completely unnecessary (why not just work it into the other three modes as a regular mechanic?), there are a lot of puzzles to keep you busy in Roll the Ball. Keep this in mind if you want to hit the target move count. Because the ball is constantly in motion, you'll be able to ferry it across gaps by moving the piece it's currently occupying rather than needing to build a complete path. Moving Mode requires a different line of thinking. So don't fret if you can't find a place for all of them. In fact, most levels will leave you with at least two or three extraneous pieces. Take your time and think about the moves you want to make. In all modes except Moving Mode, the ball won't start to move until you complete the path from the start to the goal. You won't always need to use these immovable bits, so unless there's a star sitting in one of them don't worry too much if it doesn't quite fit the path. Locked-down track pieces can be misleading.Sometimes the solution is more simple than you think at first glance. Regardless of whether you're playing Star Mode or any of the other three that keep track of how many moves you make, more often than not you can finish a given puzzle using less than 10 moves. Most puzzles can be solved with a minimum of moves. It's the best way to hone your ball path construction skills. There's no timer and no move counter in Star Mode - you just have to complete the path to move on - preferably in a way that allows the ball to collect each of a level's three star pieces. While Roll the Ball does have four different game modes, the underlying point of each is always to get the ball to the red goal.
